How to Clean & Season Your Grill with Bravo Paper Towels

How to Clean & Season Your Grill with Bravo Paper Towels

Temperatures may be dropping, but there’s still time for a few more grill-outs. Whether you’re team gas, charcoal or even electric, you know the worst part of grilling is cleaning the grates. The right cleaning tools and seasoning process can accelerate this and make your next grilling session easier than ever.

Follow these cleaning tips before you grill, after you grill and before you stow away your grill for the season.

How to Clean Your Grill Grates Before Cooking

First things first. To clean the cooking surface before you begin cooking, preheat the grill and choose a bristle-free grill scraper to remove any cooked-on food from past cooking. Why bristle-free? Wire grill brushes can break down over time, leaving behind tiny metal bristles, which can end up in your family’s food. These metal bristles can be extremely dangerous if ingested and can lead to serious throat and gastrointestinal injuries.

Don’t have a grill brush? That’s okay. Ball up some aluminum foil and scrape along the grates while holding with a pair of metal tongs. Now your grill is ready to use!

How to Clean Your Grill Grates After Cooking

The best way to prevent scrapping? Preventing food from sticking by oiling your grill grates. You should never spray cooking oils directly onto your grill as they can cause a fire flare-up.

Instead, while your grill is still warm after cooking, use a set of metal tongs and food-safe Bravo® Paper Towels to apply a small amount of oil that has a high smoke point, such as canola, vegetable or avocado oil, to the grates. These oils have smoke points around 400 degrees. A smoke point is the temperature an oil can reach before it starts smoking and breaking down.  This will not only prevent food from sticking but also prevents cast-iron and steel grates from rusting.

Bravo Paper Towels are food-safe and low-linting, meaning they will not leave behind fibers that may end up in your food. Each sheet is strong enough to remove food scraps while safely and evenly seasoning the grill grates for next time.

Cleaning the Outside of Your Grill at the End of Grilling Season

Cleaning the outside of your grill, along with regularly using a grill cover, prevents rust and increases your grill’s usability. A clean grill also prevents pests like yellowjackets, squirrels and raccoons from entering and potentially damaging the cooking surfaces when your grill isn’t being used. Use Bravo Paper Towels, water, and dish soap to wipe off any dirt or debris from the exterior of your grill. Don’t forget to clean inside the cabinet, including any spiderwebs or grease splatters. Speaking of grease, remove the grease tray if your grill has one and remove as much as you can with a spoon. Next, wash in your sink using dish soap and dry immediately using Bravo Paper Towel to prevent rust before replacing beneath your grill.
